Gray Morning

The teachers' strike continues, and Erin is still home with me. Today, we designed a day around "lessons" for her, beginning with P.E. in the morning. We drove down to my favorite trail at the beach and walked for almost 4 miles. It was incredibly foggy on the way there (at one point, Erin piped up from the backseat and said, "Mommy, this really isn't safe to drive in!"), but once we got there it wasn't bad. Heavy fog-clouds, but at least we could see where we were walking! It was lovely to see the hills covered in the yellow wildflowers that are all over the place right about now - in the sunshine, they're blinding, but even today, you can tell how bright they usually are.
Normally, in the distance, you'd be able to see the ocean. Today, though, it was all a gray blur. You can also see how foggy it was from the top of the hill at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. Yikes! Hopefully tomorrow will be a little more sunny out! Well, even with the clouds and fog, it was a fantastic walk!

  1. Oh, I love a foggy view like this! (It's the NW girl in me...) I've seen that view in the sun, and the misty moisty fog makes it so mysterious and alluring. I can just imagine how vivid those wildflowers must be in the full sun!!

  2. What a beautiful place to take a walk. That last shot is amazing with all the fog. Nice job.

  4. I love that first shot!! Beautiful even with the fog. And of course ocean shots are always special to me since I've lived on the ocean my whole life! I hope the strike ends soon.

  5. As far as I'm concerned even a foggy day at the beach is better than no day at the beach! Besides, I kind of like the fog.

  6. This is all pretty inspriring to me! I was reading some stuff in Nikonians. . . . some link I followed, and there was a whole article on shooting in fog, so I found myself really longing for some fog to shoot in. I think you did great with this, and I like the journaling about your daughter's "safety" comment.
