Areas of Dense Fog

When we first moved to Orange County last year, we really didn't know what to expect, other than abundant sunshine. So you can imagine our surprise when toward the end of May and all through June, we woke up to cloudy skies every, single day. We soon learned that it's called "Gray May" and "June Gloom" around here, and it happens when the marine layer of fog moves onshore each night and sticks around for most of the following morning. Yes, folks, it's actually fog, not drizzly clouds. Definitely takes some getting used to, but by the end of June, these gray mornings end and we're back to the sunny, warm weather that this area is known for. In the mean time, though, when the forecast calls for "areas of dense fog," we know that they're really talking about here. Right HERE.  (BTW... If you look closely, you can see that there's actually a hill at the end of our street. Really! There is!)

  2. We get fog in Nome a lot, and for some reason I really love it. I'm glad it doesn't last too long when it does come, but its almost refreshing. Nice photo!

  3. Ahh . . . palm trees! Beautiful! I'll take the fog any day over our gloomy Chicago winters.

  5. We have a lot of fog also, but I think it is pretty. And it at least burns off once the sun is out. Good capture.
