The Eyes Have It

Two years ago, as I'd posted about on my Daily Dose blog a while back, Erin got glasses. Kids todays are so lucky that their optical options are so much, well, cooler than they were when I was a kid. Erin got hot pink Ray Ban frames first, replaced by purple and orange plastic frames last year. But sure enough, the inevitable happened a few months ago... she started asking about contact lenses. Eeks. Now, I was 16 when I got my first pair (and I've been forever grateful to my Grandmom Ethel for buying them for me!), and I wasn't sure how young kids were able to wear them. Yesterday, at her annual eye exam, we asked the doctor about it, and he said that he's putting kids in them these days as young as six (!). As long as the kids can handle getting them in and out, he said they usually do great with them. It certainly wasn't easy getting them in the first time (a woman there helped, and it's never easy having someone else do that to/for you!), and for a while, I don't think anyone thought it would be a go. But Erin spent some time getting them in and out at the store, and again at home last night. This morning, she had very little trouble getting them in. What a trouper! She is incredibly determined to make this work (the woman at the store said Erin just kept saying, "I don't want to wear glasses anymore!"), so I think that's the driving force behind her being so good about it. Wow... My little girl sure is grown up. I'm afraid to think what might be next! (And I don't want any comments here about what actually might BE next! LOL!)

  2. Wow - good for her! I'm 47 years old and have had glasses since I was 16. I'm too much of a coward to even attempt contacts!

  5. Good job for her! I tried contacts when I was 18 and could not get the hang of them :)

  6. I'm impressed! And you're right, they sure do have more options! Now, after 21 or 22 or so, they can even have laser surgery, and what a better solution!
